For a blues purist such as yourself, this is not your list. It captures an assortment of the bluesier offerings from soul, R&B and even rock. All influenced by the blues, but the songs are not all able to be pigeonholed in the blues genre. I am ok with that. After five years, I am on a project reworking the list. There are some duds in there.

The "real" blues, Delta Blues is under represented but this is a brilliant compilation. The songs are not even the best ones from the artists but every song is superb and the quality of the recordings is very good. Buy it. I have hundreds of blues CD's and this is one of my favourites/5(30).

The early, stripped down hits for Modern and VeeJay; the Chess years; 70s collaborations with Canned Heat; his late revival with Bonnie Raitt, they are all here. The 31 tracks on this double-CD trace the journey John Lee, and the Blues, made from the Delta to the city, and on to the whole world.
